(Gillette, Wyo.) Last week Gillette City Council decided to continue Gillette College's $335,000 support from the City, amid drastic cuts to Gillette's budget this year. The College's service to the community re-educating and aiding out-of-work energy employees -- like through their series of free workshops this month
-- was cited as the main reason for continuing financial support.
Despite this, the College was forced to lay off a Gillette OSHA instructor,
as well as four staff members at the Sheridan campus. The duties of those
employees will be absorbed by others on staff.
In addition to the free courses available for those that need to brush up
on their computer skills, financial aid is available to those who wish to
take CDL, Nursing, or Welding programs this summer.
