School District to Hold Public Hearings for Anonymous Communications Policy

(Gillette, Wyo.) The Campbell County School District is hoping to adopt a communications policy that would "discourage" anonymous letters, emails, and phone calls, due to "the inability to hold anyone liable for anonymous communication and complications involved in verifying further information." Larry Reznicek with the district's Human Resources department says the board wanted to have something that talks about anonymous communication because "It's hard to follow through if we don't know who's sending it." Currently staff members are encouraged to use the chain of command to address problems, to try and resolve them at "lower levels." "Most issues that they are taking care of usually don't turn in to big things," explained Reznicek. There are already policies in place to address reports of bullying or harassment, which are dealt with separately. The district has decided to hold a public hearing to address this policy, and whether it needs amending. There is a session scheduled for Tuesday, June 7th at 4 p.m. and Tuesday, June 14th at 4 p.m., in the Board Room at the Educational Services Center. The public is invited to attend. #county17 #news
