(Newcastle, Wyo.) This year's Sturgis Bike Rally is going to have a theatrical twist. The Bird Cage Theatrics Company of Newcastle is staging a modern adaptation of Shakespeare's play Macbeth, using Harley Davidsons on a live stage. The Flying V Lodge & Resort is hosting the event, to take place at the start of bike week. From August 6th through the 9th there will be food, drinks, and free camping for those in attendance of the play. Director Bill Conte promises the classic drama will have leather, broadswords, and explosives. "Our goal is more than mounting a compelling production of Macbeth,” says Conte. "Ours is to re-create the spectacle of Macbeth, with powerfully strong characters. The Flying V’s courtyard during the Sturgis Rally is the perfect setting for Motorcycle Macbeth. It will make great theatre!" Conte has assembled a 15-member company of semi-professional actors to stage the show. To that he will add 10-15 local players in various roles. But the production also has a Kickstarter
to help offset the costs of staging an outdoor play on motorcycles.
"Our budget is $20,000," said Cathy Becker. "These funds will pay for our
actors, our band, and the director, their food, housing, and
transportation. The funds also cover props, security, sound, lighting,
advertising, and the pyrotechnics experienced at the end of the play. This
is no small feat, and we are turning over every rock to pay for the things
that will make this a true experience for all who attend."
Tickets can be purchased online
and are $25. That includes
camping at the site.
