Donkey Creek Festival is Gearing Up for Tonight!

(Gillette, Wyo.) Vendors are setting up near the Tech Center and sound check is happening. The annual Donkey Creek Festival enters its 10th season this weekend. The beer garden is ready to go, the First Aid Station has already fired up their mist tent for those overcome by the 90 degree heat, and the new Avenues of Art sculptures are ready to be unveiled in just over an hour. This year's events include a 5K run/walk Saturday morning, a kids activity tent on Saturday and Sunday afternoon, and laser tag. Sixteen bands will perform all weekend long, starting at 6:15 tonight with Jordan Smith and wrapping up Sunday night with Banditos. We are under a Red Flag warning right now, and temperatures over the weekend will be a little cooler, but still in the 80s. Don't forget sunblock and to drink water to keep you healthy if you're out in the sun all day. - *Only bring what you need.* Things will get lost or stolen at a festival. Don't leave valuables in the car that anyone passing by can spot, and don't bring anything meaningful with you that you might lose on campus. - *Don't overdo it.* Even though adult beverages are available doesn't mean you have to drink as many as possible. - *Maybe leave your pup at home.* Today is going to be scorching hot even in to the evening hours. Festivals are loud and there are a lot of people everywhere. That can make even a well-behaved dog nervous. Plus the pavement can get too hot for little paws. Pets *are* allowed at Donkey Creek, but if you think they'd be happier at home in the air conditioning, leave 'em to nap while you enjoy the concerts. For a full concert schedule, click here .
