Crook County Fire Forces Evacuation of Sundance Canyon Ranch

(Sundance, Wyo.) Wednesday afternoon as severe storms passed through Northeast Wyoming, lightning ignited a thousand acre fire southwest of Sundance. The Sundance Canyon Fire was caused by two lightning strikes in the area of the Sundance Canyon Ranch Subdivision. Crook County Emergency Management evacuated the homes in that subdivision about an hour after their first response to the fires. The two fires have now combined into one, originally it was being referred to as the "Browning Fire." "We are still in the initial attack phase and hope to get a better idea on the size of the fire later today,” said Incident Commander Dick Terry. The Crook County Fire Department is being assisted by Wyoming State Forestry, the Forestry Conservation Program Smoke Busters, United States Forest Service Fire Fighters, Weston County and a helicopter. So far there are no injuries reporter and no structures lost, but the evacuation order remains in place. Those with livestock and campers can bring their animals to the Crook County Fairgrounds. #county17 #news
