Driver Arrested After Crashing Into Twin Spruce Junior High

(Gillette, Wyo.) A Sheriff's deputy driving up 4-J road at 2 a.m. Thursday morning spotted a maroon Jaguar speeding north on 4-J from Boxelder. He caught up to car, which almost rear-ended the car in front of it. The Jaguar then reportedly swerved in to the oncoming lane of traffic, nearly causing a collision. That's when the deputy tried to stop the driver. 26 year old Gillette resident Michael Hernandez sped off, turning on to 9th Street. He reportedly reached speeds over 65 mph on the residential road. As Hernandez neared Gillette Avenue, his Jaguar jumped curb and crashed in to fence of Twin Spruce Junior High. After exiting his car, Hernandez allegedly smelled of alcohol. A breath test was administered and showed an alcohol level of .149. Hernandez was arrested for DUI, reckless driving, eluding an officer, and interference with an officer, all misdemeanors. There was minor damage to the fence in back, but no injuries reported. #county17 #news
