Crook County Fire Evacuation Order Lifted; Firefighters Still Struggling

(Sundance, Wyo.) While the evacuation order for Sundance Canyon Ranch has been lifted, the Browning Fire, southwest of Sundance, is 75% contained due to high temperatures and low humidity over the weekend. The Northewast Wyoming area is under a red flag warning until 11 p.m. tonight. The dry, hot conditions combined with high wind gusts up to 35 mph are complicating firefighting efforts. So far the Browning Fire is estimated at just over 800 acres. "The forecasted weather gives us concern because it can increase fire behavior," said Incident Commander Dick Terry. "Our crews continue to mop-up the Browning Fire to decrease the chance of movement beyond the current perimeter. This will allow our crews to better respond should any other situation arise from the forecasted weather." There is also a chance of thunderstorms over the Black Hills late this afternoon and evening that may bring erratic winds and dry lightning. Currently a variety of private individuals and contractors are on scene, as well as Wyoming State Forestry Division, Wyoming Honor Conservation Camp, Crook County, Weston County, US Forest Service, and the City of Arvada, Co. #county17 #news
