FDA and Local Law Enforcement Investigating Suspicious Fruit

(Gillette, Wyo.) Monday around 5:30 p.m, the Campbell County Sheriff's Office received a call from a United States Food and Drug Administration Agent about a possible case of food tampering. A woman in Wright contacted the agent this weekend about a cantaloupe her husband had purchased on Friday. When she cut inside of the melon on Sunday, she found a red liquid inside that looked like blood. She called the FDA to see if it was simply spoiled fruit, or someone had injected something in to the rind. Not finding any prior cases of bleeding cantaloupe, the FDA agent suspects it may be tampering, and had the Campbell County Sheriff's Office collect the melon for testing. It's being held in refrigeration in evidence until the Crime Lab can inspect it later today. If you have any information, or... similar fruit... you can contact the Sheriff's Office at (307) 682-7271. #county17 #news
