Crash west of Newcastle leaves one dead

(Newcastle, Wyo.) Saturday evening on Highway 16, 27 year old George Thompson was heading east in his Chevy pickup when his vehicle left the highway and was overcorrected to the left. The overcorrection caused the truck to travel over the centerline of the highway at which time the truck was overcorrected to the right. The second overcorrection sent the Chevy into a skid, which is when it left the highway again, tripped, and rolled multiple times. Wyoming Highway Patrol reports that the seat belt system in the truck had been completely removed from the vehicle at some point before the crash occurred. Thompson was ejected during the crash a result. He sustained fatal injuries on scene. Suspected alcohol use, excessive speed, lack of a seat belt and lack of seat belt use are being investigated as contributing factors in this crash that marked the 48th highway fatality in Wyoming for 2016. There were 74 fatalities during this same time period in 2015. #county17 #shortgo #news
