Fight at Finals Rodeo Ejects Competitor and His Family from Cam-Plex

(Gillette, Wyo.) Campbell County Sheriff Scott Matheny reports that yesterday at the National High School Finals Rodeo, a 42 year old man from Nevada threw a punch from behind at an Arizona man. The man was struck on the right side of the face underneath his eye, bending his glasses. At the time of the assault, the official was telling the suspect's wife to leave the rough stock arena for yelling profanities at one of the rodeo vice presidents. There appears to have been some disagreement about whether the couple's teenager had been violating rough stock rules, and as a result, he was disqualified from competition. By the time Sheriff's deputies arrived on scene, the fight had been broken up by rodeo staff, and deputies tried to calm everyone down. Staff asked that the family be trespassed from Cam-Plex property, but they had already left the arena and were packing their RV to go home. Sheriff Matheny was unable to provide full details in to the altercation at press time and directed County 17 to the National High School Rodeo Association, who declined comment. The NHSFR is in its fourth day of competition. So far the biggest problems have been reports of teenagers driving golf carts recklessly around the area, causing some damage to other vehicles. #county17 #news
