(Gillette, Wyo.) After announcing they were filing for bankruptcy in June
a corporate spokeswoman said Thursday that all Hastings stores and
corporate offices will discontinue operations, including in Gillette. This
is according to Q2 News
in Billings, who is also losing their Hastings store.
Spokeswoman Peyton Burgess said the exact closure date has yet to be
Hastings operates 126 stores, three in Wyoming -- in Laramie, Rock Springs,
and here in Gillette. The company has fallen on hard times following
declining sales and a shrinking market for physical media.
The company filed for Chapter 11 protection last month, citing its goal of
"expediting our search for a buyer that would help us complete our
re-merchandising strategy and position our business for long term success."
The company was officially sold Wednesday, according to the press release,
and the winning buyer was a "joint venture that will instead oversee a
liquidation of our stores," between Hilco Merchant Resources LLC and Gordon
Brothers Retail Partners LLC.
The bankruptcy court is expected to approve the agreement tomorrow, on July

It’s unclear how many employees at the Gillette store will lose employment.
