Sheridan College presents Wind and Jazz Ensemble

(Sheridan, Wyo.) — The Sheridan College Department of Music presents the Sheridan Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble in their inaugural concert under the direction of Dr. Eric Richards, SC’s new Director of Bands and Jazz Studies. [image: Inline image 1] *h/t photo Pixababy* The concert will take place on Sunday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. at the Sheridan High School auditorium. The Wind Ensemble will perform classic and contemporary works for wind band, to include the march National Emblem by E.E. Bagley, Mozart’s Overture to the Marriage of Figaro, Gustav Holst’s First Suite in Eb for Military Band, Percy Grainger’s beautiful setting of theIrish Tune from County Derry (“Londonderry Air”) and Czech composer Vaclav Helhybel’s exciting work Festivo. The Jazz Ensemble will perform a set of exciting music for big band, according to Richards. The ensemble will open with Paul Baker’s swinging arrangement of George Gershwin’s ‘S Wonderful, followed by Mark Taylor’s setting of Blues in Hoss Flat by Count Basie and Frank Foster, the jazz standard Dat Dere made popular by alto saxophonist Cannonball Adderley, the beautiful ballad Angel Eyes, and will close with Dr. Richards’ New Orleans funk flavored composition The Crescent City Stomp. “We are especially pleased to collaborate with the Peoples Assistance Food Bank for this concert,” said Richards. “We have an incredible program arranged for everyone to enjoy, and while admission to the concert is free, a suggested donation of one bag of non-perishable groceries is requested to help those in need during the Holiday Season.” Personnel from the Food Bank will be present at the concert to receive all donations.
