Medicine Wheel Ranger District pile burning could begin next week

(Greybull, Wyo.) — Medicine Wheel Ranger District firefighters may begin burning slash piles the week of Nov. 23. Slash piles are comprised of residual material, such as tree limbs, left over from timber sales and tree thinning projects. Burning could begin as early as next week and continue through December, conditions permitting. Piles are burned only when there’s enough snow on the ground to keep the flames from spreading into nearby vegetation. Firefighters will monitor the burning piles for as long as necessary. Piles to be burned are located on Forest Service Road 14 around Porcupine Ranger Station and in areas along Forest Service Road 17 around the Paintrock Lodge and the Ruble Creek and Ranger Creek summer homes.
