Whitney Benefits and Sheridan College recognized by UW

(Sheridan, Wyo.) — Sheridan College and Whitney Benefits were recently awarded the RN/BSN Completion Program by the University of Wyoming. In 2006, Whitney Benefits created an endowment at Sheridan College to enrich nursing and nursing education in the community. The endowment established a collaboration between the University of Wyoming and Sheridan College through appointment of an endowed nursing chair, providing face-to-face advising and academic support for those students pursuing the RN/BSN Completion degree. “An endowed nursing chair at a community college is a unique arrangement,” said Marlene Ethier, E.A. Whitney Endowed Nursing Chair. “We hope to serve as the model for future endeavors to facilitate RN to BSN education statewide.” Dr. Mary Burman, Dean of the Faye W. Whitney School of Nursing said, “The partnership between Sheridan College, Whitney Benefits and the University is unique and innovative with a focus on increasing access to BSN education for nursing students and nurses in the Sheridan area. It’s a model for the state and for the rest of the country. Building upon a strong associate degree nursing program, the partnership connects nurses and nursing students with UW’s BSN program. And it works! The number of nursing students and nurses from the Sheridan area working on their BSN at UW has increased significantly.” Robert Prusak, Whitney Benefits Trustee, added, “Whitney Benefits is proud of its association with the Sheridan College nursing program and recognizes that the contributions of the University of Wyoming School of Nursing provides Sheridan with quality nurses. We look forward to future endeavors between Sheridan College and the University of Wyoming, School of Nursing.” *Feature Photo: Dr. Mary Burman (left) of the University of Wyoming presents the RN/BSN Completion Program Community Partner Award for 2015 from the University of Wyoming to the Whitney Benefits Foundation and Sheridan College.
