Bighorn National Forest is recruiting firefighters for summer 2016

(Sheridan, Wyo.) — The Bighorn National Forest will fill up to 20 temporary fire positions for the 2016 summer season. Vacancy announcements for fire positions are posted to the federal government’s official jobs website Interested applicants are encouraged to visit the usajobs website to create a user profile before the open announcement period, which is January 7 – 14, 2016. Interviewing and hiring will take place in late February. Positions will be filled for the Wyoming Interagency Hotshots in Greybull and for hand crews and engines on the Medicine Wheel, Powder River, and Tongue ranger districts in Greybull, Buffalo, and Sheridan. The jobs pay $12.19 and up per hour, depending on the position. Temporary employees typically work through the summer season, beginning in May or June and ending around Labor Day, though seasons vary depending on the work, the weather, and funding. Some positions are housed in remote work stations throughout the Bighorn National Forest.
