(Wyoming) — Today marks the 125th year since the final blow was struck on Dec. 29, 1890, at Wounded Knee Creek. Up to 300 men, women and children died in what has become known as the Wounded Knee Massacre in South Dakota. This iconic image of Miniconjou chief Spotted Elk (Bigfoot) as he lay dead in the snow was taken after the Massacre by George Trager and Frederick Kuhn, photographers in the West during the late 19th Century.
