City awards over $2.5 million for Loucks Street reconstruction

(Sheridan, Wyo.) — The City of Sheridan has awarded $2,580,288.87 to Hot Iron, Inc., of Gillette, for phase one of the West Loucks Street reconstruction project. According to the City, the project is a neighborhood reconstruction project replacing sanitary sewer mains, water mains, existing storm drain lines, portions of sidewalks, portions of curb, gutter and parking areas, tree installation and street surfacing. "Some of the tough decisions made were to keep portions of the existing sidewalks and curb and gutters, narrow the street width to reduce speed, and new decorative and/or functional lights," a memo from Joe Schoen, P.E. and Project Manager for the city states. "In the end, West Loucks St. will keep the same look and feel as it has today." As part of the public involvement for this project, a steering committee was formed from property owners and businesses that live and work along West Loucks Street. "The steering committee donated considerable amounts of time and went door to door asking people for their ideas in order to gather information for the design team," Schoen said. "After five public meetings and six steering committee meetings, final design was completed and everyone is ready for construction!!" The project is fully funded with allocations from the water and sewer fees, optional 1% sales tax and capital facilities tax funds. *Map h/t City of Sheridan / Pitchengine Communities* *Feature photo flickr.com / Pitchengine Communities* #dally #news
