Sheridan PD warns of scammers claiming to be IRA agents this time of year

(Sheridan, Wyo.) — Every year during tax season, the Sheridan Police Department sees a rise in complaint calls pertaining scammers impersonating IRS agents, according to Lt. Tom Ringley. Commonly, the victim will receive a call from an individual or individuals claiming to be IRS agents, stating the victim owes back taxes and must make payment immediately or be arrested. The IRS has issued a number of public announcements warning the public of this fraud, but "we continue to receive reports of individuals who have fallen victim," Lt. Ringley said in a press release. Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) is currently investigating all IRS Impersonation Scams and takes the matter seriously. If you are the victim of an IRS Impersonation Scam, please report the complaint to the TIGTA Denver Field Division at (303) 291-6100 or TIGTA’s “IRS Impersonation Scam Reporting” website linked below: *Feature photo h/t / Pitchengine Communities* #dally #news
