Former National Rodeo Champion joins Sheridan College Rodeo coaching team

(Sheridan, Wyo.) — For Shelby Winchell, coaching rodeo is a "dream job." When she was approached by Marc Gilkerson, Sheridan College Rodeo Coach, about joining the coaching team, "without even thinking about it, I was like, 'Yes!'" Winchell will officially join the staff as a new assistant coach for the Sheridan College Rodeo Team in July, but is already thinking about helping SC athletes and students along. "Sheridan College is a phenomenal school," Winchell said. "It is a fantastic facility and a great place for athletes, and for students to get an education." Shelby, a native of Scottsbluff, NE, is a decorated Rodeo veteran with numerous awards to her name. She was twice the Reserve College National Champion (Goat Tier) and won the Central Rocky Mountain Region’s Reserve All-Around Cowgirl and Goat-Tying Championship in 2012. “Shelby is one of the most dedicated, hardworking, focused and competitive individuals I have ever seen,” said Gilkerson. “I am extremely excited to have her be a part of our program.” Shelby joins the Rodeo Team following successful completion of her B.S. in Education last May from Chadron State College, where she is currently pursuing a Masters of Education in School Counseling. She believes her educational background will be a big asset to her coaching. “Coming from an education background, the opportunity of an education cannot be surpassed,” Shelby said. “Sheridan College provides programs that enhance the future for rodeo athletes and all students."
