Snow water equivalent rises in the Tongue River area

(Casper, Wyo.) — The state snowpack held steady this past week at 90% of the median with gains in nine of the state's water basins, and drops in 10 others. In the Tongue, the snow water equivalent has risen from 57% measured last week to 63% measured this week. However, at this time in 2015, the snow water equivalent was 97%. "We are staying at 90% for the state with a little gain in the north and a loss in the south. Last year we were at 94%, in 2014 131%, and in 2013 85% of median. It is snowing in the north right now so perhaps we can achieve a little more gain there," said Water Supply Specialist Lee Hackleman of the Natural Resources Conservation Service in his weekly email.
