Sheridan High School shows Bronc Pride in an important way

(Sheridan, Wyo.) — When Sheridan High School's business class heard about an upcoming basketball game with their rivals in Gillette, they thought up a unique way to combine two ideas in to one. The students took a marketing project and turned it in to an awareness campaign for suicide prevention — and the result is these amazing "#BroncStrong" and "#CamelStrong" beanies. With the help of school guidance counselors from both cities, Sheridan High School's Sources of Strength program, the Campbell County Suicide Prevention Coalition and others, the idea for a gray beanie with the yellow suicide awareness ribbon embroidered on the front has gone from idea to reality. Sheridan High School teacher Kathleen Pilch's marketing class has sold 288 beanies for $5 each, donating the profits to the SHS Sources of Strength program. Students from both rivaling schools are wearing the beanies all this week, in advance of the Sheridan vs. Gillette game on Friday. The Sheridan hats say "#BroncStrong" in a blue font, and the Gillette hats say "#CamelStrong," but they are otherwise the same. Same gray color, same yellow ribbon. It's a show of solidarity for suicide prevention in both communities. Some things are far more important than a high school rivalry. (At Dally, we will still be rooting for the Broncs Friday at 3 p.m., but celebrating ALL of our amazing youth.)
