(Sheridan, Wyo.) — The Halo Wounded Warriors are visiting Sheridan this weekend, and participated in a panel discussion at the Crisis Intervention Training
on Friday afternoon.
The four combat veterans introduced themselves, talked about their service
and explained their injuries.
In keeping with the weeklong mental health theme of the CIT workshops, the
veterans discussed post-traumatic stress disorder, how that may interact
with alcohol and substance abuse and how mental health officers, police
officers and others can best approach veterans in sensitive situations.
Some said they would appreciate being approached from the front — as
sufferers of PTSD, being surprised may set off a "combat mode" reaction.
All said their families and their pets are their comfort — their "safe"
The Wounded Warriors will be at the Sheridan County Sportsmens Association
Gun Club at 10 a.m. today to shoot trap and skeet and will be at the
Wounded Warrior Sled Hockey Demonstration from 5-7 p.m. at the m&m Whitney
