Sheridan musicians performing for free next week

The Sheridan College Department of Music presents the Sheridan Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble in concert under the direction of Dr. Eric Richards, SC’s new Director of Bands and Jazz Studies. Their Spring 2016 concert will take place on Thursday, March 10th, 2016 at 7.30 pm at the Sheridan High School auditorium. Admission is FREE. The Wind Ensemble will perform classic and contemporary works for wind band, to include the rousing march El Capitan by John Philip Sousa, Ralph Vaughan-Williams’ English Folk Song Suite, Percy Grainger’s light-hearted Country Gardens, contemporary American composer Frank Ticheli’s beautiful setting of Amazing Grace and David Holsinger’s exciting composition Havendance. The Jazz Ensemble will open their set with Paul Murtha’s swinging arrangement of the Theme from Black Orpheus. They will then revisit the very popular Mark Taylor setting of Blues in Hoss Flat by Count Basie and Frank Foster. The program continues with the jazz standard After You’ve Gone, the beautiful ballad Lover Man featuring local music educator Garth Moline on alto saxophone, and will close the concert with Dr. Richards’ Brazilian-influenced composition Arranco (“Impulse”). *h/t Sheridan College* #dally #whatshappening #news
