Rumor control: Is BNSF closing its Sheridan stop?

This week, the Pitchengine team at Sheridan Dally began to hear rumors that the BNSF Railway would be closing its operation in Sheridan as soon as this summer. So, we set out to see what we could find. Public Affairs Regional Director for Montana and Wyoming, Matt Jones, responded this morning. He neither confirmed nor denied that a closure was planned. "BNSF has not announced any changes to its operations in Sheridan or its workforce there," Jones said in an email. "Should changes occur, BNSF will work to ensure they are communicated to our people and interested community members." BNSF Division Train Master Bill Badenhoop said this morning on a phone call with Dally that, "At this point, there are no plans to close the Sheridan station." But when asked about why a 10-year buyout was offered to local employees, he directed Dally's questions back to Jones. "I am not authorized to talk about this to the news media," Badenhoop said. Dally is seeking clarification on Jones's statement, and has reached out to the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen for comment. At this time, there is no definitive information to either confirm or dismiss the rumors. More information will be reported as it becomes available. *photo h/t Steve Crise, BNSF Railway* #dally #bootstrapped #news
