Buffalo Police Department warns of phone scam

(Buffalo, Wyo.) — Scammers are calling local residents impersonating Buffalo police officers and demanding payment. "Iff you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be a Buffalo Police Officer and asking for payment HANG UP IMMEDIATELY and call 911 to report it," BPD said on its Facebook page . The Buffalo Police Department has received several recent reports of subjects impersonating officers via telephone with the intention of extorting money. "Please remember that we will NEVER demand payment to avoid arrest. Not only are we not capable of taking payment via telephone, we do not collect on debts," BPD says. When asked on its page about using 911 to report a phone scam, BPD responded: "Because many scammers will spoof their phone number to replicate our non-emergency line, we are concerned that victims may not (know) that number as trust-worthy in the immediate aftermath of the scam phone call." #dally #news
