Ten Sheridan, Buffalo students win at State Science Fair

(Laramie, Wyo.) — Ten Sheridan and Buffalo students won awards at the State Science Fair at the State Science Fair in Laramie in early March. First place in the senior division of the went to *Benjamin Conklin* of Buffalo High School, and first place in the junior division went to *Dulce Carroll *of Sheridan Junior High School. Carroll was also among the The United States Air Force award winners. Carroll also took first place in the junion division category of Engineering Design & Innovation. Conklin took second place in the senior division of the same category. Award winners received an Arduino Kit and a 1-year student membership to the American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics, the world’s largest technical society dedicated to the global aerospace profession. *Carly Craig *of Big Horn Middle School was awarded a certificate from the American Meteorological Society as one of four students for their creative scientific endeavors in the areas of atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences. Craig also was awarded a certificate from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for research that emphasized the NOAA mission. Craig also took third place in Earth & Environmental Sciences Junior Division. *Nick Aasby *of Holy Name Catholic School was awarded one of the Bill Barlow Memorial Youth in Conservation Awards, presented in the memory of a rancher and conservationist who was also a founding member of the Powder River Basin Resource Council. Aasby was also recognized by the U.S. Metric Association for a project that involved quantitative measures and correctly used units of the SI metric system. *Katie Magera* of Holy Name Catholic School received one of two University of Wyoming Department of Anthropology $50 awards, for a topic of interest and relevance to one of the major anthropological research fields of archaeology, cultural anthropology, linguistic anthropology, or biological anthropology. *Samantha Rogaczewski *of Holy Name Catholic School received a certificate of achievement and a monetary award for third place in the category of Animal Sciences Junior Division. *Carley Jo Motsick *of Big Horn Middle School took first place in the Chemistry category. *Jacob McIntyre *of Tongue River Middle School took third in the category of Energy & Transportation, Junior Division. *Katelin Rogaczewski* of Holy Name Catholic School took second place in the junior division of Plant Sciences. *Morgan Smith* of Holy Name Catholic School took third place in the Robotics/Computer/Mathematical Sciences Junior Division.
