Sheridan Police Department will have extra patrols on St. Patrick's Day

(Sheridan, Wyo.) — The Sheridan Police Department has received a traffic grant to pay for extra patrols on St. Patrick's Day, according to SPD Lt. Tom Ringley. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration , St. Patrick’s Day has too often ended in tragedy due to drunk drivers getting behind the wheel. Over St. Patrick’s Day from 2009 to 2013, there were a total of 276 lives lost in drunk-driving crashes across the nation, the NHTSA says. Luck is not on your side, the NHTSA says—from 2010-2014, during the St. Patrick's Day holiday period, over half of men aged 21-34 killed in crashes were killed in drunk driving crashes. According to data from the Wyoming Department of Transportation, there were 190 total DUI offenses in Sheridan County in 2012. The average BAC was 0.1650.
