Antelope Butte Foundation expanding activites into Big Horn County

(Sheridan, Wyo.) — A grant from the Wyoming Community Foundation will support the Antelope Butte Foundation as it expands their activities in south Big Horn County. The $10,000 grant was made possible through the Gordon and Edna Sykes Endowment Fund and will support programs focused on outreach and education. The Antelope Butte Foundation is a nonprofit organization serving northern Wyoming with affordable and accessible year-round mountain recreation, focusing on youth and beginners. Formed in 2011, the organization has saved the shuttered ski area at Antelope Butte from demolition and plans to reopen it as a four-season activity center in 2017, calling it the Antelope Butte Mountain Recreation Area. The Antelope Butte Foundation has also hosted the Antelope Butte Summer Festival since 2014, with over 750 festival-goers recorded last year at the facility that sits on US HWYy 14 in Big Horn County. Andrew Gast, Executive Director and Ski-EO of the Antelope Butte Foundation, believes the grant will greatly benefit the organization. “The funds granted will allow more children and novice recreationalists to get their first exposure to mountain recreation activities, as well as making the programs of Antelope Butte more accessible to all residents in Big Horn County," Gast said. The grant includes support for the Antelope Butte Summer Festival, scheduled on July 22-24. The festival will feature 9 live music acts, a traditional ceremony by the Crow Nation, trail runs, mountain bike races, camping, food vendors and family activities. The grant also supports outreach activities for Greybull Days of ’49 and development of an Exploring Post, as well as upgraded computer equipment for the organization.
