Bighorn National Forest talks change to the forest plan

(Sheridan, Wyo.) — The Bighorn National Forest is seeking comments on changes to the 2005 Revised Land and Resource Management Plan. The change, which affects "Chapter 4: Monitoring and Evaluation," is required by the 2012 National Forest System Land Management Planning Rule (Rule). The Rule requires all national forests to update monitoring plans by May 2016 and to consider public comment on the proposed changes. “The goal for the change is to more accurately and efficiently monitor changes occurring on the Bighorn National Forest,” said forest supervisor Bill Bass. “Your comments are very important and will help guide how future monitoring occurs on the Bighorn.” Comments will be reviewed and considered before a final monitoring plan is approved. Comments may be hand delivered or sent by regular mail to Forest Supervisor, Bighorn National Forest, 2013 Eastside 2nd Avenue, Sheridan, WY 82801. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, except federal holidays. Electronic comments should be sent to comments-bighorn@fs.fed.us with “proposed monitoring transition” in the subject line. To be most helpful, comments should be received by April 30, 2016. For more information about the proposed changes to the monitoring plan, contact Christopher D. Jones at christopherdjones@fs.fed.us or 307.674.2627. The proposed monitoring plan and supporting information are available online at www.fs.usda.gov/main/bighorn/landmanagement/planning. #dally #news
