Free Severe Storm Spotter Training session coming to Sheridan

(Sheridan, Wyo.) — The National Weather Service of Billings is offering a free Severe Storm Spotter Training session in Sheridan this week. During the training, participants will learn to be a volunteer severe storm spotter by identifying and reporting severe weather to local National Weather Service offices. The National Weather Service Office, in cooperation with Cloud Peak Radio and Electronics Group in Sheridan, will be conducting a SKYWARN Spotter Training Session on Saturday, April 16, from 1-3 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge, 109 S Gould. The National Weather Service relies on trained volunteers to supplement Doppler radar information on severe storms. Storm spotter reports are an important step in the National Weather Service warning decision process for severe thunderstorms that produce damaging hail, high winds, tornadoes and flash floods. The training is free and anyone interested in severe weather or becoming a trained severe storm spotter is invited to attend. Volunteers currently registered for the program are also encouraged to attend as a refresher and to stay updated on the latest reporting procedures. For additional information, please contact Tom Frieders of the National Weather Service at (406) 652-0851 ext 223, tom.frieders@noaa.gov., or Local Ham Radio Community Coordinator Rondall Swart at (307) 763-8515, k7cdl@hotmail.com. #dally #news #whatshappening
