Therapy dogs helping local kids develop reading skills

(Sheridan, Wyo.) - There is a trend growing across the nation that you may be unaware of: reading to dogs. No, the dogs are not studying for an SAT, they are helping children become more comfortable with reading out loud. The children’s department at Sheridan Fulmer Public Library joined the trend recently and began hosting ongoing “Reading Dog” sessions. A variety of local, certified therapy dogs come to the library weekly to listen to stories read by children. Besides, they are so much more appreciative when you give them a biscuit at the end! The Reading Dog sessions are held at Sheridan Fulmer Public Library on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons by appointment. All ages and reading levels are welcome and sessions are thirty minutes each. Call 674-8585 ext. 119 for more information. [image: Reading Dog - Crackers.jpg] #knapp #dally #news
