Is your kindergartner a superhero? Of course!

Well, at Coffeen Elementary this week, a fresh-faced crop of incoming students are being transformed into superheroes. But the villain on the horizon? Well, it could be the economy. It is possible the district will lose some of its registered students before the fall begins. "We have about 245 registered for kindergarten for next year, and always have more register between now and August; however, with the economy we are anxious that we may be losing families," Scott Stults, Director of Elementary Education for SCSD #2 told Dally. "It is the social stuff parents can help with. The biggest thing with school is these little five year olds coming into the school, and it can be kind of scary at times. ... Read to them every night, take them to museums—it is those experiences that are important," Mohr said. And speaking of experience, experienced mom Carol Lee Wicht, took her 4-year-old son Nels to be screened at Coffeen today. He is her fifth child to enter kindergarten. Carol Lee said that the more kids you have going to school, the more your little ones will want to go. "He can't wait," Carol Lee said, as Nels traced his name for teacher Mohr. Oh, and those teachers you see walking around in brand-new Hulk Hogan, Superman and Marvel t-shirts? Maybe, just maybe, they will be wearing them under their teacher uniforms on the first day of school this fall.
