For the fourth year in a row, in an ongoing effort to bring the community and the Sheridan Police Department together in a neutral, positive space to address one common goal: making Sheridan great, the City of Sheridan hosted its fourth annual Citizens Police Academy . Tonight, as the participants graduated from the Academy, and you could feel the camaraderie between the officers and the participants. Everyone spoke highly of the class, of the officers' passion and of the experience itself. "Before this class, I would see police officers all over the place," Dave Cody, who took the class with his teenage daughter Sarah, said. "Now, there is a face behind the uniform, and it is not just a body in a cruiser." Visibly moved, he said he would do what he can to have the officers' backs, and his daughter said she also loved the class. "I am always hungry for knowledge, and this filled a gap in my knowledge," she said. Two participants said the class checked off an item on their "bucket lists," and Susan Spielman said she has been "so totally impressed with how awesome, dedicated and passionate" everyone in the department was throughout the entire experience. Spielman said she has put a face to the officers in the department, and that the class was captivating. "Everybody seems genuinely devoted to this department, and every person is passionate," Spielman said. "Most people want to be a part of something bigger than themselves," Sheridan Police Chief Rich Adriaens said tonight. "We have a young department, and active department that is well-educated. They are a real tribute to the PD as a whole." See a full album of the graduates on Dally's Facebook page here . The Sheridan Police Department will continue its community outreach with "Coffee with a Cop ," beginning on April 25 at 5:30 p.m. on Monday at Starbucks.
