(Sheridan, Wyo.) — Some people might plant a tree today for Earth Day. Today, Team Depot is planting 60 at the Volunteers of America Veterans Honor Garden in Sheridan. "We just like to be a part of the community," David King, General Manager of Home Depot said today. "We live here, we have families here. This is our home." Home Depot partnered with the VOA to install plantings and work on the Honor Garden after the VOA received a $14,000 grant from The Home Depot Foundation, as well as support from Team Depot. King said Home Depot has a great partnership with the VOA. In fact, this is the third project the two agencies have teamed up on to bring to Sheridan. Others include a chicken coop build and fence installation. Today's though, is probably the biggest and best. The Veterans Honor Garden was originally conceived as a way to honor VOA former Board of Directors member Jim Norton, and all of the veterans the VOA serves, Skye Heeren of the VOA has told Dally
Norton was a veteran who fought in WWII, served at the Battle of the Bulge,
was captured and was held as a German POW.

"(He was a) really a remarkable guy. He spent his later years in Sheridan
and was a community leader and advocate," Heeren said.
The Sheridan VOA is the leading provider of veterans services, aside from
the VA itself, in Wyoming and Montana, according to Heeren.
