Organizers prepare for a full house at job fair at the VA

(Sheridan, Wyo.) — The annual VA Job Fair is tomorrow, and its organizers are preparing for a packed house. Beth Martini, Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor at the VA, told Dally that the first portion of the job fair, from 1-2 p.m., will be open to veterans only. The second portion of the fair, from 2-4 p.m., will be open to the general public. "We encourage people to come dressed as if they are going to a job interview," Martini said. "Have your resume in hand, and be prepared to interview." Veterans may want to bring their DD214 certificate of release/discharge from active duty, she added. The annual event is sponsored by the Sheridan VA Medical Center and the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services. "It is going to be pretty packed in here," Martini said. Present Thursday will be employers from the medical sector, food and lodging industries and training and vocational programs. They include but are not limited to the Sheridan Memorial Hospital, the VA itself, several nursing homes; retail and cashiering employers like KMart and WalMart; True Colors and Sheridan College; and Bear Lodge looking for summer help. This year, the job fair is coming amidst news of layoffs across the region, but April has generally been a good month for the annual event, Martini said. "We used to do it in the summer, and what we have found is that the fair is better received in April, when folks are hiring for the tourist season," Martini said. #dally #news
