The Food Group, Inc., receives $21,353 for continued programming

(Sheridan, Wyo.) — The Food Group, Inc. in Sheridan has received a $21,353.37 grant to keep its weekend programming providing food for children in Sheridan County going. The Food Group, Inc. is a non-profit organization providing weekend food for children in Sheridan County for whom a meal may not be a guarantee. Though often hidden from their peers and other community members, many children are relying heavily on the food that they receive during school. Approximately 37% of children in Sheridan County receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch. The Food Group bridges the gap between Friday lunch at school and Monday breakfast at school for over 400 children so that they will come to school ready to learn. The Food Group depends on donations from the community to purchase healthy food for children from a local grocery store. They also depend on an army of about 75 volunteers weekly who pick up the food, sort it into weekend food packs, and deliver it to 19 schools throughout Sheridan County. The Food Group, Inc. serves children from preschool through high school.
