Deckorators® Voyage Composite Decking Earns 3 Top Products Honors
Professional Remodeler, Pool & Spa News, HBS Dealer recognize new slip-resistant decking
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., October 1, 2019 – Deckorators®, a leading brand of Universal Forest Products, Inc. (Nasdaq: UFPI), is committed to offering the best composite decking on the market. Prestigious building industry publications and their readers have taken notice. New Deckorators VoyageTM composite decking has earned 2019 top products honors from Professional Remodeler, Pool & Spa News and Hardware + Building Supply (HBS) Dealer.
Introduced to the marketplace at DeckExpo in October 2018, Deckorators Voyage composite decking quickly became a favorite of deck builders, a differentiator for lumberyards and building material dealers, and a focus of industry observers. Voyage has collected the following industry accolades in 2019:
· Professional Remodeler Top 100 Products for 2019: Voyage composite decking claimed a spot in the Outdoor Living category, with the publication highlighting that “Voyage absorbs virtually no moisture and allows no thermal expansion or contraction. Like other members of the EovationsTM decking family, Voyage also delivers the best strength-to-weight ratio . . .. Its textured embossing offers superior traction on the deck surface, along with the look of vertical grain variegation.” To select the annual list for its August issue, the Professional Remodeler editorial team totaled reader engagement for products that appeared in the magazine over the previous 12 months.
· Pool & Spa News 2019 Top 50 Products: Each May, Pool & Spa News honors the year’s top pool industry products in a special issue. Based on reader response, the annual “parade of innovation” included Voyage for its superior surface traction, resistance to water absorption, and 25-year structural, 25-year stain-and-fade and 25-year removal-and-replacement limited deck warranty as well as coverage for water and ground contact. Voyage is ideal for pool, spa and hot tub applications.
· 2019 HBS Dealer Golden Hammer Award: The Hardware + Building Supply (HBS) Dealer editorial staff judged entries for the year’s best new products based on innovation, value and shelf appeal. “Slip-resistant Voyage composite decking is 35% lighter than most wood-plastic decking, and twice as strong as PVC . . .. Also, the unique textured embossing allows for 34% or greater surface traction and other brands of composite decking, along with the look of vertical grain variegation,” the HBS Dealer editorial team wrote in the key features section of the Voyage award profile published in the September issue. “The company’s warranty policies signal confidence in its products’ performance,” the publication added in its judge’s comments.
“At Deckorators, we focus on developing innovative products that solve problems and set design trends,” said Chris Camfferman, managing director, marketing for Deckorators. “We’re honored that such highly respected publications have recognized the unique benefits of Voyage composite decking. We believe in the performance, aesthetics and value of Voyage decking, and we stand behind the product 100 percent.”
Deckorators Voyage was also included among the “Top 5 Break Out Products of 2019” on the Aug. 25 episode of The Ultimate Deck Podcast, which feted new products that have “made a splash and become famous on Instagram.” Produced by The Ultimate Deck Shop in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, The Ultimate Deck Podcast is an increasingly popular podcast for North American deck contractors.
During the Aug. 25 show, The Ultimate Deck Podcast host and The Ultimate Deck Shop co-owner Shane Chapman pointed to the Voyage color options — Sierra (dark gray), Tundra (gray), Costa (golden brown), and Mesa (red brown) — and embossing as reasons for the product’s 2019 “break out.”
“With these colors and the enhanced-traction nature of this line, (Voyage) is really catching people’s attention this year,” Chapman told his listeners. “You’re seeing a lot of (contractors) on Instagram trying this product out and loving it. We’re seeing it move through our store, and people are really, really liking this line.”
Voyage was not the only Deckorators deck board to receive industry honors in 2019. Deckorators Heritage Ciderhouse composite decking claimed a spot in the Professional Builder 2019 Top 100 Products roundup, which was chosen for the August feature based on reader engagement. “With a light brown hue and distressed embossing, Ciderhouse has the rustic look and feel of distressed hardwood,” the publication wrote.
