FIRST FEMALE SENIOR MINISTER JOINS FIRST UNITARIAN SOCIETY OF MILWAUKEE

After 175 Years, Rev. Nordstrom to be Installed at First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee

Milwaukee, Wis, March 17, 2017– The Reverend Jennifer Nordstrom will be officially installed as the first settled female Senior Minister at First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee on Sunday, April 30. A 4:00 p.m. service is planned at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 1100 North Astor Street in Milwaukee, to accommodate the large number of expected attendees. The Rev. Nordstrom is the first female to lead the congregation as it enters its 175th year in Milwaukee. She is a national leader in Unitarian Universalism, on peace, climate justice and racial justice.

“I believe religious communities have the capacity to change the world, and to bring more beauty, justice, and joy into our personal lives and the broader world. I understand ministry as the work of weaving individual parts into interconnected harmony with the whole.” said Rev. Nordstrom.

In addition to leading the congregation, The Rev. Nordstrom has already been active in the Milwaukee community with immigrant rights and racial justice initiatives where she brings her experience in multiracial and interfaith “Beloved Conversations” on race and faith to join with other peace-makers, justice-seekers, and clergy. The Rev. Nordstrom spent many years working on peace and international nuclear disarmament issues and is co-authoring a book on environmental justice and Unitarian Universalism. The Rev. Nordstrom was featured in the recent Milwaukee Magazine article, “Everybody’s Talkin’” where community leaders discussed how to create the world we dream about here on earth.
