Girls Empowerment Network’s Summer Camps, campGEN, Bring Cool, Creative Activities to Central Texas Girls in Grades 3 – 8, Pathfinder Leadership Summit Gives Young Women in Grades 9 – 12 a Head Start on the Road to their Future
AUSTIN, Texas – With the end of the school year in sight, Girls Empowerment Network announced a schedule for its three, weeklong summer camp sessions in 2017 for girls entering grades 3-8 and the third year of the Pathfinder Leadership Summit for young women entering grades 9 – 12.
CampGEN girls participate in interactive workshops that are designed to help girls feel more confident as they navigate girlhood. The program engages Girls Empowerment Network’s girl experts and female role models as camp counselors. Three different summer camp sessions are available for girls entering grades 3-8.
• The first camp called Calm, Cool, & Creative is June 26-30, where girls will explore healthy ways to deal with stress and anxiety while learning the importance of self-expression and self-care. This camp includes yoga, arts and crafts projects, healthy cooking, writing, storytelling, games and other activities.
• A second session, Strong, Bold, & Assertive, will be held July 10-14. In this session, participants will find their strength and inner confidence and learn how to project a confident attitude through role playing and skits, as well as support a local nonprofit of their choice by creating their own fundraising and community advocacy project.
• Relate, Motivate, & Celebrate, July 24-28, is all about discovering yourself and strengthening relationships with peers and adults. Girls will walk away with a greater self-awareness, an appreciation for diversity, and knowledge about different cultures around the world. Activities include arts and craft projects, GEN workshops, and sessions with guest speakers.
All three campGEN summer camps will be held in Downtown Austin at First Baptist Church, located at 901 Trinity Street, Austin, TX 78701, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Drop off begins at 8:00 a.m. and aftercare is available until 5 p.m. for $50. These five-day sessions cost $325.
“Our team at Girls Empowerment Network works with girls year round in schools and conferences, and summer is when we can put all our energy into an action-packed, crazy-fun week,” says Caroline Crawford, program director. “Camp is a time for girls to get out of their comfort zones, make new friends and try new activities – and we think it helps reduce their stress, improve their friendships and give them a strong foundation for another school year come August.”
The Pathfinder Leadership Summit is a program designed especially for young women in grades 9-12 who want to enhance their personal and professional leadership skills. The third year of this weeklong program will be held from Monday, June 12 to Friday, June 16, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday, June 17, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, Pathfinder will meet at the Girls Empowerment Network office located at 3000 S IH 35, Suite 400, Austin, TX 78704.

In one action-packed week, the Pathfinder Leadership Summit combines site visits to different Austin-area companies, workshops and small group mentoring with one-of-a-kind professional networking opportunities designed especially for ambitious young women. Through workshops and field trips, Pathfinders will discover their passions and strengths, develop skills like interviewing and public speaking, explore different industries and professions, and gain access to women leaders — all with the support of like-minded peers. The week culminates with a luncheon with influential and successful women from the Austin business community who want to inspire and support the next generation.
In addition to the summer Summit, Pathfinder Workshops throughout the year educate and inspire girls to reach for the futures they want, give back to their community, and sharpen their professional skills.
Pathfinder Leadership Summit is also seeking recent high school graduates and young women enrolled in an institute of higher education to apply as interns for the program. After a three-day training, interns will serve as mentors for groups of five to eight Pathfinders during the week-long Pathfinder Leadership Summit. Intern responsibilities include developing and leading team building activities, leading small group discussions, assisting in coordinating projects, and more.
