Dr. Michael Kende, Senior Fellow and 2016 Global Internet Report Author, Internet Society
Dr. Michael Kende is an independent economist, a Senior Fellow with the Internet Society, and Senior Advisor to Analysys Mason. He is the former Chief Economist of the Internet Society, where he spent a significant amount of time promoting Internet development in emerging regions around the world. At the Internet Society, he worked online privacy issues, and recently authored the Internet Society’s Global Internet Report: The Economics of Trust. He previously contributed to a report for the Global System Mobile Association (GSMA) on online privacy, internet security and related regulatory trends in Asia.
Dr. Kende is an Affiliate of the Berkman Klein Center of Harvard and is currently teaching Internet Governance and Economics at the Graduate Institute of Geneva. Prior to joining the Internet Society in August 2013, he was a partner at Analysys Mason, a global consulting firm focused on telecommunications and media. At Analysys Mason, he was head of the Policy and Regulatory sector, and in charge of developing the firm’s Internet practice.
Dr. Kende has a Ph.D. in economics from MIT and a BA in mathematics and economics from Bowdoin College. Prior to MIT, he worked as a systems analyst in the IT department for Proctor and Gamble in Geneva. After MIT, he spent five years as a professor of Economics at INSEAD, a business school near Paris, before joining the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). At the FCC, Dr. Kende was the Director of Internet Policy Analysis, where he was responsible for managing a wide range of policy analyses and regulatory decisions. Dr. Kende is based in Geneva, Switzerland.
