Low-Cost, Hi-Tech IoT Wi-Fi Camera Module Ushers in New Era for IoT App Development

Leading Shenzen-based IoT technologies developer and supplier announces launch of low-cost, innovative IoT Wi-Fi camera module with immense potential for revolutionizing the way we live.

20th June, 2017 (China) - With broadband internet being widely available, decreasing costs of connecting, innovative devices with Wi-Fi capabilities being developed and skyrocketing smartphone penetrations, the world is perfectly poised for the next big technological revolution – the IoT (internet of things). One company in China is miles ahead of the competition in developing, producing and supplying cutting edge IoT technologies and services – Rakwireless Technology Co., Ltd. Based in Shenzen, China, the company has an R&D center in Shanghai where dedicated technologists get down to developing low-cost IoT modules such as the WisCam IoT Wi-Fi video module.

Speaking to the press, RAK spokesperson had this to say, “We are extremely pleased to announce the launch of our ultra-low-cost Arduino compatible RAK WisCam modular evaluation kit developed to help developers design Wi-Fi video products with Linux OS. Packed with enriching features such as open source hardware, integration with Nabto P2P cloud server, UART interface, comprehensive accessories including sub camera, rich peripherals and hi-speed wireless connection, our versatile product can be used for many applications such as smart toys, a Wi-Fi IP camera, driving record, smart homes, medical monitoring, baby monitor, human machine interface and much more. This versatile product is currently being sold on Aliexpress."

The RAK WisCamunit consists of a Sub-Camera board, Sub-SD&USB board, one micro USB cable, five jumper caps, a 2.4G antenna, a speaker and four Dupont lines. This innovative product can transmit video through Wi-Fi to a variety of multi-platform apps; all software source code for Android, iOS, Windows PC apps, hardware PCB files and firmware can be found on Github. The board features impressive specifications including a robust Nuvoton N32905R3DN CPU,256Mbit internal DDR2,128 Mbit external flash memory, 648x488 pixel camera lens and 16-bit stereo DAC to name a few. WisCam is integrated with NABTO P2P cloud server that enables playing of video and two way audio anywhere that has access to the internet. It allows users to scale videos(up to x1 ~ x8), overlap videos and crop videos via RAW DATA etc. Accessories include a Sub-Camera that is used to collect image sensors and play them in the app via Wi-Fi, a Sub-SD&USB for USB storage or UVC function and others.

When asked who the target audience is for the RAK WisCam, RAK’s spokesperson had this to say,” We are aiming to meet the requirements of IoT product developers who wish to make innovative home automation products with camera feature. WisCam is a one-of-a-kind product because we collaborate with Nuvoton to make completely open source hardware including media encoder. Anyone who wants to develop an interesting app based on Linux OS with audio and video can use this module for amazing results.
