James "Sunny Jim" White Releases 2-CD Set of Live Recordings from Duo Shows with Top Troprock Artists

Sunny Jim & Friends captures magic moments during intimate acoustic shows with Troprock Songwriters

Osprey, FL (Oct 26, 2016) - Singer songwriter James “Sunny Jim” White has released a 2-CD set of live recordings filled with spontaneous musical magic that happens when talented performers get together to showcase original music. The acoustic shows were recorded in the Freight Room at the historic Venice Train Depot in Venice, FL during the past two years. Sunny Jim has been hosting fellow singer songwriters in this county facility since 2004.

“For those of us who make a living writing and performing music, having the chance to perform our songs and share the stories behind them, to people who want to listen and appreciate it, is just a gift,” he says. “There is no scripting or set list, no rehearsals - we swap songs and see where that takes us.”

“Where it takes them” is always a lively and unique show for loyal supporters of the Suncoast Serenade Series, many of whom have been attending these concerts to support Troprock artists for years. The performers share the stories behind the songs and trade light-hearted barbs, to the delight of an audience enjoying the session up close and personal.

“I love the intimacy of the shows,” says Raynell Woods, a Venice resident and concert regular. “We get to know the performers and hear the stories they tell. It’s really special.”

Bill Woods says these acoustic shows are a departure from the noisy bar scene where most singer/songwriters have to compete with talking, loud blenders and blaring TVs.

“We spend three hours away from the outside world, enjoying great music, and hearing how the songs came about,” he said. “It’s even become a social event for many of us - we tailgate in the parking lot and socialize outside before the concert begins.

Sunny Jim discovered the Freight Room years ago when he first moved to Sarasota County and was searching for a place to host singer-songwriter friends coming through Southwest Florida on tour.

“It’s a cool setting with wood floors, original roof beams and brick wall with fantastic acoustics,” he said. “We’ve all played together from time to time and this gives us a chance to spend three hours enjoying our music and sharing it with the audience.”

White spent hours and hours listening to recorded shows to select a couple of songs from each performer, or performers, for the CDs. The project took on a more personal significance with the loss of two close friends, Jim Morris and Hugo Duarte.

“We will miss them tremendously, but Jim and Hugo left us their music – that is their gift to us,” he said.

The CD set includes performances from; Keith Sykes, Scott Kirby, Brent Burns, Rob Mehl, Jim Morris, Hugo Duarte, Tom and Michelle Becker, John Patti and George Nowak, The Barefoot Man.

“The amount of talent on this CD set is amazing, everyone is performing their original songs with their own style,” said Sunny Jim. “These are the people who pour over every word and note of a melody. Artists who love what they do and love sharing it with people who appreciate it- they wouldn’t be doing it if they didn’t.”

Saying that most of the artists would probably perform their music even if they weren’t getting paid, James White chose Hugo Duarte’s song “The Conversation” to close out the recording and drive that point home.

Sunny Jim & Friends LIVE from the Venice Train Depot is available online at It will also be available at Meeting of the Minds in Key West during Sunny Jim’s shows or at his booth in the minimart.
