Cheyenne’s Friday Food Bag Foundation has begun a program to allow donors to feed a school-aged child for an entire year. The Food Bag Foundation seeks donations of $225, payable to the Foundation to provide one student a Friday Food Bag for an entire year.
The Friday Food Bag Foundation works with social workers from both Laramie County School District 1 and Laramie County School District 2 to deliver bags of nutritious, non-perishable food each Friday while school is in session to children who otherwise might not eat well, or at all, during the weekends.
According to Judy Weickum, who sits on the board of the Friday Food Bag program, the effort is currently delivering around 813 bags a week to students in the district. The overwhelming need has forced some schools to go to a lottery system from time-to-time which means some students who received a food bag last week are not always assured of a bag the next week.
For more information or to donate online, see http://ffbag.org or by mail at Friday Food Bag Foundation, PO Box 1186, Cheyenne, WY 82003-1186. Those interested in donating their time to fill food bags can meet the second Tuesday and fourth Wednesday of each month at Element Church on Carlson Street.
