Legends Outlets increases occupancy rate to 95 percent as permanent retail additions, experience and growth continue for the outlet center

Upward trend includes highest occupancy rate of any Kansas shopping center and year-over-year traffic increases

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (Dec. 10, 2018) – Legends Outlets, the only outlet center serving the Kansas City metro, reports robust leasing activity in 2018, including seven permanent retail additions, increased experiences, new interactive elements, and a 95 percent occupancy rate – the highest of any shopping center located in the state of Kansas. The leading regional and local shopping destination, which attracts more than 10 million visitors annually, also announces continued traffic increases estimated at approximately 2 percent cumulative year-over-year, or 200,000 visitors.

In 2018, the 1.2 million-square-foot shopping center welcomed seven new, long-term tenants – Kate Spade outlet, Journeys, HomeGoods, Michael Kors outlet, Rack Room Shoes, The Dapper Doughnut and True Religion – five of which are unique to the Kansas City market (Kate Spade outlet, Michael Kors outlet, Rack Room Shoes, The Dapper Doughnut and True Religion). The center, which has more than 100 outlet stores, retailers, restaurants and entertainment venues, also announced another, permanent tenant – El Toro Loco, a locally owned Mexican restaurant, which is planning to open this winter.

In addition, Legends Outlets continues to add experience and diversity throughout the center with upgraded center-wide Wi-Fi and two jumbo, outdoor LED screens – phase one of its west end development plan. The screens, which debuted in January of 2018, broadcast regular entertainment, events and activities for another fun, dynamic and engaging experience at Legends Outlets. Additionally, the center launched complimentary Fiber Wi-Fi in November for a faster, more convenient experience for guests.

In 2017, Legends Outlets announced plans to transform the west end of the property by building a new, community space called The Lawn – phase two of the west end development project. Currently under construction, The Lawn will provide shoppers, visitors and families with an engaging gathering space for leisure activities, picnics, screenings and events of all kinds. Features include a large green space, park-like elements, tables and seating, which face the center’s new, jumbo LED screens.

Legends Outlets was also the venue of choice for two major city events in 2018: Fall Chick Event and Village West WineFest. The Fall Chick Event brought approximately 5,000 visitors to the center for its two-day Kansas City marketplace event, Sept. 8-9. The 12th Annual Village West WineFest, held at Legends Outlets on Sept. 22, was sold out with 1,500 guests in attendance and raised more than $25,000 for multiple non-profit organizations through KC Cause. The 2018 beneficiaries included Sunflower House, SACRED, Special Olympics Kansas and Douglas County, Kansas City Hospice, Helpful Hands KC, Hands to Heart, CASA of Leavenworth County, and Bra Couture KC.
