North Suburban Medical Center Announces Philip F. Stahel as Chief Medical Officer

THORNTON, CO, October 18, 2017 – HCA/HealthONE’s North Suburban Medical Center announced that Philip F. Stahel, MD, FACS has been appointed as Chief Medical Officer (CMO). Stahel will be a key member in North Suburban’s Senior Executive team, with responsibility for defining and implementing the strategic vision of the organization. He will provide medical oversight, expertise and leadership to ensure the delivery of quality healthcare services at North Suburban. In this role, he will be responsible for strengthening and growing relationships with medical staff and community partners throughout north Denver to continually aid North Suburban in its commitment to the care and improvement of human life.

Dt. Stahel comes to North Suburban with a wealth of experience, serving as an orthopedic trauma surgeon at Denver Health and as Professor of Orthopedics and Neurosurgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He is nationally recognized for his leadership in patient safety initiatives, including in his role as regional chair for the Patient Safety Movement Foundation and in his extensive research, teaching and writing on the topic of patient safety.

In addition, Dr. Stahel has dedicated his career to the improvement of patient safety in the hospital environment, publishing numerous books and articles on the topic, lecturing around the world, and acting as the editor for the internationally renowned peer-reviewed journal, “Patient Safety in Surgery.” In 2015 he wrote a book entitled “Blood, Sweat & Tears: Becoming a Better Surgeon” and just this summer received the “Ernest E. Moore MD Award” for his outstanding contribution to the Rocky Mountain Regional Trauma Center and for his commitment to the care of the traumatically injured.
