Public art projects launching around Casper

Keep Casper Beautiful and the Casper Artists’ Guild will be adding new art to downtown Casper. One project will be a mural that will be painted on a wall of the Downtown Parking Garage. A second project will apply original artwork to four downtown traffic signal cabinets. The art for the four signal cabinets is being collected through an art contest. Natrona County artists are being asked to submit art that will help to visually interpret Casper’s Wyocity brand. The four winning entries will be printed on vinyl wraps and installed on four traffic signal cabinets at various places downtown. Works can be drawings, photographs, manipulated photographs, or any work that can be printed digitally. Signal cabinets can be found on many street corners throughout the city. These large structures stand about five feet high and four feet wide, but they are made of steel, so they tend to blend in to the cityscape. Artwork will be applied to all four sides of these cabinets, effectively transforming them from bland metal boxes into large pieces of permanent installation art. Submissions for the signal cabinets will be accepted at ART 321 from April 12th until April 30th. Out of the many submissions, a panel of judges will select three works to adorn the cabinets. The fourth work will be chosen by public vote during the May Art Walk hosted by ART 321. Winning artists will be paid a $200 fee for their work. The call is available on the Guild’s website: www.art321.org. The second part of the project is a mural that will be painted in the downtown parking garage. The chosen wall is located just to the south of Second Street and is visible from Center Street. Local artists Tony and Amy Elmore with Fort Atelier, LLC. were selected for this project. The mural is the second for Keep Casper Beautiful. In 2014, “The Power of Actions” was painted in the Beverly Street underpass to commemorate all who serve. Keep Casper Beautiful partnered with Fort Atelier and Serve Wyoming for the 9/11 National Day of Service project. *Photo of the parking garage h/t Keep Casper Beautiful* #oilcity #news
