860 scholarship applications to consider, how does Casper College do it?

(Casper, Wyo.) - The volunteers will have their hands full this year with 860 scholarship applications to consider at Casper College's Spring Judge-A-Thon. This will be the third year of the Casper College Judge-A-Thon and the seventh time judges are brought in for each semester to consider applicants. Lisa Icenogle, Casper College Coordinator, reported that there are more than 200 scholarships available for the upcoming Fall Semester. The college will be accepting new applications again for the next semester this October. The Casper College Foundation and Alumni Association are seeking 30 more judges for the this year's event and that will be held on March 14-18 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day, Monday-Friday. Icenogle commented about the Spring Jude-A-Thon, "All judges are welcome to come and go as they please throughout the week, and it is a great opportunity for people to get out and meet others while assessing these students' achievements." Volunteers are granted scoring cards and asked to rank each application from 0-5: Associate Director of Donor Relations, Elliott Ramage commented, “Volunteers can choose whatever day or days they want to come up to the college and vet our current pool of applications from traditional and nontraditional students so we can efficiently award the most fall scholarships." Casper College reported that the judging process is pretty easy, but volunteers need to be familiar with operating a computer. “Instructions and coaching are offered at each of the sessions, and food and drinks will be served each day,” said Ramage. Volunteers can stay for any part of any of the five daily sessions that their time allows for. “We are building a pool of volunteers who love reading students’ stories and scoring their applications. They really enjoy the camaraderie with the other volunteers. We couldn't get this process done well without their help,” said Ramage. The Casper College Judge-A-Thon will be held each day in the Center for Excellence, Room 126 in the Thorson Institute of Business, located on the Casper College campus.
