Trojans students rock with the community for the Annual Rodstock Celebration

(Casper, Wyo.) - "This is a chance for Trojan students to show off their talents and build a sense of school community," said Kelly Walsh High School Principal Brad Diller. "It turns into a good day all around." This morning and throughout the day Trojan students, faculty, Trojan Alumni, friends and family will pack into the Trojan gym for a day of celebration. Celebrating a day that began in 2008 that raises funds for Make-A-Wish Wyoming. Student Body President and senior at KW, Abbey Kersenbrock, commented, "Today is an entire day where our school and the community comes together." Kersenbrock reported that last year's Rodstock, students collected $27,000 for Make-A-Wish Wyoming, and they hope to at the very least match that this year. "It is a day that the Casper community meets with the Trojan community, through music and fun," said Kersenbrock. Students, teachers, and Trojan Alumni will be bringing their talents to the main stage, including: vocals, instruments and fifty different acts. Rodstock began in 2009 as a tribute to Rodney Mahaffey, a popular teacher who enjoyed playing guitar and who has since retired. KWHS Alumni Rodney Mahaffey commented at celebration, "This is the coolest thing happening on the planet today. The first Rodstock took place in 2009 and we called it, "Rod and the Residents," as student teachers are called residents. The first event raised around $600 and it has grown every year. To me, this is the best community/school relationship event." Rodstock will began this morning at 8:30 a.m. and will run throughout the day. The community is invited to come enjoy the festivities. All funds raised via classroom goals and concessions will go to Make-A-Wish Wyoming to help grant the wishes of Wyoming children battling life-threatening medical conditions.
