Local natural gas company added to the mix for the Employer Support Freedom Award

(Casper, Wyo.)- Casper-based Mesa Natural Gas Solutions was one of 30 employers recently selected from a pool of 2,424 employers as a finalist to receive the U.S. Department of Defense's top honor for their support of their employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve. "When I started Mesa Natural Gas Solutions, there were two things that were clear to me. First, I wanted veterans to be the strength behind the company, no matter how old, how young or place/type of service. And, second, I wanted to stay in and provide jobs in the Great State of Wyoming," said Mesa Natural Gas Solutions CEO Jakob Norman. *From left to right are Mesa Natural Gas Solutions Procurement Chief Chris Piasecki, CEO Jakob Norman, Chief of Maintenance Richard King and technician Chris Cozzens. * "Having lived in many states across the US and serving overseas in multiple countries, I have never found a more uniquely qualified group of individuals than Unites States military veterans." Norman continued, "While I have worked for and led great non-veterans, there will always be a special place in my heart for those who have volunteered to do what less than one-half of one percent will ever do and that is to wear a military uniform and serve for something larger than all of us. The heart of the work we do is 24/7 field service in some of the harshest environmental conditions with zero tolerance for failure. For this reason, over 85 percent of our employees that service the field are veterans. These are the people we can count on, every time." Mesa Natural Gas Solutions is the only Wyoming entity to be named as a finalist for the 2016 Freedom Award. Should Mesa be selected as one of the winners, they would be the first private employer based in Wyoming to win the Freedom Award. Only one Wyoming organization has ever received the Freedom Award since the program started in 1996 - the State of Wyoming, which won in 2002. This year's finalist group is comprised of 11 large employers, 10 small employers and 9 public sector employers. Fifteen winners will be announced this summer. “Mesa being selected as a finalist for the 2016 Freedom Award is an incredible honor, one that belongs to the employees of this company. The truth is, veterans and active service members are the best team members any company could ask for intelligent, resourceful, disciplined, hard working and loyal. It’s smart business and it’s part of our company mission to support the individuals who have made tremendous sacrifices for our nation," said Greyson Buckingham, Mesa Natural Gas Solutions Director of Policy Greyson Buckingham, a member of the University of Wyoming Army ROTC and the Wyoming Army National Guard. Mesa Natural Gas Solutions, which distributes and services natural gas powered generators, is comprised of 60% veterans who have more than 200 years of combined service and 28 overseas deployments. In addition, 85% of Mesa field staff are veterans. The Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award is the highest recognition given by the U.S. Government to employers for their support of their employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve. The award was established to publicly recognize employers who provide exceptional support to their Guard and Reserve employees. Up to 15 awards are presented each year to employers in three categories, large business, small business and the public sector. "Whether praised or criticized, I will continue to make hiring veterans our number one hiring priority. I am proud to employ fellow brothers and sisters-in-arms,” finished Norman. *Feature Photo: h.t.
