Huge Wyoming buck allegedly taken illegally in Sublette County

(Sublette County, Wyo.) - In November of 2015 a non-typical mule deer buck was taken in the Big Piney area by a hunter, identified by Sublette County District Attorney as forty-two year old Nate Strong. Wyoming Game and Fish Warden, Adam Hymas told Oil City Thursday, "Bottom line, the mule deer buck was shot in November of 2015 east of Big Piney. The male hunter, Nate Strong, carried a whitetail buck tag and he shot a mule deer buck, after the mule deer season had closed in early October." Warden Hymas continued to state that Monday, April 11th Strong appeared before the Sublette County Court for his arraignment where he pled not guilty to the single charge of taking an antlered deer without proper license or during closed season. According to Wyoming State Statues: *A conviction for a violation of Wyo. Stat. 23-3-102(d) is punishable by a fine of not less than $5,000.00 nor more than $10,000.00 and imprisonment for up to one year. Moreover, a conviction could result in the requirement to pay restitution to the State of Wyoming and result in the loss of hunting privileges for a minimum of five years.* The Pre-Trial Conference is scheduled to take place on July 25, 2016 and the trial has been set for August 23, 2016. This case was brought to the WGFD's attention by concerned citizens who had witnessed the mule deer buck on display at the Salt Lake City 2016 Western Hunting and Conservation Expo. The reporting parties had noticed the same buck in the area after the October mule deer season had closed, they inquired information from the hunter and learned that it had been taken in November and notified the WGFD. Hymas added, "The Game and Fish always appreciates the public support and notifications when they witness something illegal taking place. The Game and Fish will work diligently to pursue any reported violations. We appreciate the public keeping an eye on their wildlife."
